Emergency Services
In an emergency dial 999 (Ireland) or 112 (pan-European).
Both connect to police, ambulance and fire services.
Electricity
220-240V / 50Hz with a Type G three-pin plug (the same as the UK).
Visitors from mainland Europe, North America or elsewhere will need a plug adaptor.
These are widely available at airports, pharmacies and hardware shops in Galway.
Time Zone
During the conference, Ireland operates on Irish Standard Time (IST), UTC+1.
This is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Language
The official languages are English and Irish (Gaeilge).
English is universally spoken and the conference will be conducted entirely in English. Road signs are bilingual.
Currency
The currency is the Euro (EUR / €).
Cards are accepted almost everywhere and contactless payment is widely used.
ATMs are plentiful in the city centre and at Eyre Square.
Weather in October
Galway has a mild, temperate Atlantic climate.
October brings cool, changeable conditions with a mix of crisp, bright days and occasional showers.
Average daytime high : 14°C – Average low : 8°C – ~ 3 hrs sunshine daily.
Layers are essential. A light waterproof jacket or compact umbrella is strongly recommended.
Driving in Ireland
Traffic in Ireland drives on the left-hand side.
Speed limits use kilometres (km/h).
If hiring a car, an international driving licence may be required depending on your country of origin.
Seatbelts are compulsory for all passengers.
Insurance & Health
The CERC Organising Committee cannot accept responsibility for medical expenses, loss or accidents.
Delegates are strongly advised to arrange comprehensive personal travel insurance before travelling.
EU / EEA delegates should bring their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which entitles holders to necessary state healthcare in Ireland.
Pharmacies (chemists) are widely available throughout Galway city centre.
Mobile & Connectivity
Ireland has excellent 4G / 5G coverage throughout Galway.
EU visitors can use their home data allowance under EU roaming rules at no extra charge.
Visitors from outside the EU may wish to purchase an Irish SIM card on arrival.

Tipping & Dining in Galway
Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory in Ireland. A tip of 10–15% is customary in restaurants for good service; rounding up is common in cafes and for taxis.
Galway has a thriving food scene, from traditional Irish pubs and excellent seafood restaurants to international cuisine. The Latin Quarter and Quay Street are particularly lively in the evenings.
